Great Knaresborough Bed Race
Great Knaresborough Bed Race 2026 draw tonight as event oversubscribed
The iconic Great Knaresborough Bed Race is set for a major moment tonight as organisers hold a draw to decide which teams will compete in this year’s hugely popular event.
A record 108 teams have entered the 2026 race in Knaresborough, making it oversubscribed for the first time since 2020. However, with space for just 92 teams, a draw will determine who secures a place and who misses out.
The draw, hosted by Knaresborough Lions, will take place at 7pm tonight (Wednesday) at the Working Men’s Club on Kirkgate. Members of the public are invited to attend, with Pete Egerton supporting the event.
Strong demand for 2026 Bed Race
Team Coordinator Matt Walker said interest in this year’s event has been exceptionally high, driven by both the new theme and updated entry process:We’ve had a great level of interest already this year. People have reacted really positively to the ‘Great Inventions’ theme, and there’s also been a great response to the entry form moving online.”
The Great Knaresborough Bed Race remains one of the biggest annual events in North Yorkshire, attracting thousands of spectators and raising significant funds for local charities.
When is Knaresborough Bed Race 2026?
The 2026 event takes place on Saturday 8 June, featuring a full day of entertainment:
- 1pm: Fancy dress parade from Knaresborough Castle
- 3pm: Main race begins at Conyngham Hall
Teams will race decorated beds through the streets before tackling the famous River Nidd crossing — one of the most anticipated moments of the day.
