Hospital heist: Police hunt thieves after cables stolen from Harrogate District Hospital

Thieves are believed to have struck Harrogate District Hospital under the cover of darkness, stealing around £13,000 worth of electrical cable — and police want to know if you saw anything suspicious.

North Yorkshire Police have launched an investigation following the burglary at Harrogate District Hospital between Friday 31st July and Monday 3rd August 2026.

The thieves are believed to have targeted several areas of the hospital, removing electrical cable before transporting it away.

And police believe they may have used a vehicle to make their getaway.

Investigators believe the thefts took place during the night, particularly between 10pm and 2am.

That means anyone who drove past the hospital, visited the site or lives nearby could potentially have seen something important without realising it.

Police are particularly interested in suspicious people or unfamiliar vehicles spotted around the hospital grounds.

A police spokesperson said:

“We believe that the suspects have removed cable from various parts of the hospital and may have used a vehicle to transport the stolen items.

“We are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the hospital grounds or any suspicious vehicles in the area during this time.”
