McDonald’s Harrogate closed for major refurbishment

McDonald’s Harrogate closed for major refurbishment until March 17
One of Harrogate town centre’s busiest fast-food restaurants has temporarily shut its doors — and it won’t reopen until mid-March.

The McDonald’s branch at Nidderdale House on Cambridge Road closed recently for what staff describe as “exciting changes. A notice displayed at the entrance confirms the restaurant is undergoing refurbishment works and is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, March 17.

Customers looking for their nearest alternative are being directed to branches in Ripon and Knaresborough while the renovation continues.

What’s changing?

Planning documents previously approved by North Yorkshire Council include minor alterations to the building’s exterior, such as a new access door and replacement glazing, alongside other associated improvements. Work is expected to continue for several more weeks.

Mixed reviews — but top hygiene rating

Despite its prime location and steady footfall, the restaurant has received varied feedback online. It currently holds a 1.7-star rating on TripAdvisor from 92 reviews, ranking 237th out of 292 local restaurants. On Google, it scores 3.4 stars from more than 1,500 reviews.

However, food hygiene standards tell a different story. Following an inspection on January 13, North Yorkshire Council awarded the restaurant the highest possible rating of five stars, meaning standards were judged “very good”.

The refreshed branch is expected to welcome customers back in mid-March once the refurbishment is complete.
