Knaresborough police incident: Man arrested after hours-long stand-off over ‘false imprisonment’

A major police incident in Knaresborough has ended with a man arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment following a tense stand-off at a residential address.

Officers were called to Marbled White Place shortly after 8am on 22 April amid reports that a man had refused to leave a property and was preventing a woman from leaving.

A cordon was quickly put in place as North Yorkshire Police responded, with specialist officers attending and negotiations continuing for several hours.

The man, believed to be in his 40s, was later detained and arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment. He has been taken to hospital for treatment and remains under close police supervision.

Police have confirmed the incident has now been safely resolved and is being treated as isolated, with no wider risk to the public.

Neighbourhood officers will carry out reassurance patrols in Knaresborough this evening to support residents following the incident.
