Ripon man jailed after brutal attacks on two women
Ripon man jailed after brutal attacks on two women – victim says she thought she would die
A violent Ripon man who left one woman fearing for her life and another living in constant fear has been jailed for nearly four years.
Noah Munson, 21, from Ripon, was sentenced to 45 months in prison at York Crown Court after admitting a series of offences involving two women.
The disturbing case has highlighted the devastating long-term impact violent and coercive behaviour can have on victims across North Yorkshire communities.
Woman feared she would not survive Ripon attack
The court heard how Munson attacked a woman on Queen Street in Ripon in September 2023 following an altercation.
She was hit with such force she collapsed to the ground suffering serious head injuries.
In a heartbreaking victim statement, she described the terrifying moments after the assault.
“That night, I genuinely believed I was going to die.”
She told the court she was choking on blood, drifting in and out of consciousness and unsure if she would survive before reaching hospital.
The lasting impact
The victim explained the trauma has stayed with her long after the attack.
- Recurring trauma and fear
- Ongoing emotional distress
- Loss of confidence and security
- Daily reminders of the assault
“This savage attack has permanently changed me.”
Second victim describes “constant fear”
While on bail for the first offence, another woman approached North Yorkshire Police to report repeated unwanted contact and coercive behaviour by Munson.
She also revealed threats, intimidation and physical violence during their relationship.
In her own statement, she described how fear became part of daily life.
“I was constantly frightened of upsetting him.”
She said the abuse left her feeling isolated, controlled and unable to be herself.
She told the court:
- She lost confidence and independence
- She felt constantly watched
- Fear controlled everyday decisions
- The relationship changed who she was
“I no longer felt like myself.”
Judge praises victims for bravery
Munson admitted:
- Wounding
- Two counts of assault
- Controlling and coercive behaviour
The judge praised both women for their courage in supporting the prosecution.
Detective Constable Louise Kennemore said the case demonstrated “serious violence and coercive behaviour against female victims”.
She added that without the bravery of both women, the outcome may have been very different.
Domestic abuse support across North Yorkshire
North Yorkshire Police says tackling violence against women and girls remains a major priority across Ripon, Harrogate and surrounding communities.
Police are encouraging anyone experiencing:
- Domestic abuse
- Coercive control
- Threatening behaviour
- Physical violence
to come forward and seek support.
For many readers, stories like this are a reminder that abuse is not always visible — and that help is available across North Yorkshire
