Knaresborough man takes on Nigel Farage and Count Binface in high-profile Clacton by-election
Martin Davies, a former Lloyds Banking Group executive from Knaresborough, says he wants to offer voters “a genuine alternative” in one of Britain’s most closely watched by-elections.
A Knaresborough resident is stepping onto the national political stage after announcing he will stand in the Clacton by-election against Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and Count Binface.
Martin Davies retired two years ago after a 37-year career with Lloyds Banking Group, where he worked directly with customers and led major programmes of organisational change. Since retiring, he has become Treasurer of Freedom Alliance and was elected the party’s leader earlier this year.
A grassroots approach
Martin says his campaign is focused on representing ordinary people rather than career politicians.
“My aim is to give the people of Clacton another serious political choice.
“Freedom Alliance is primarily a grassroots party.
“I’m not a career politician. I believe politics should be about listening to people, representing them and being accountable to them.
“Clacton deserves a genuine alternative.”
National attention on Clacton
The Clacton by-election has attracted significant media attention following the resignation of Nigel Farage after scrutiny over his finances.
Although much of the spotlight has focused on a contest between Farage and Count Binface, Martin believes voters deserve a broader choice at the ballot box.
Linking MPs’ pay to local earnings
A key Freedom Alliance policy would see MPs’ basic salaries linked to the average earnings of the constituents they represent. Legitimate expenses and additional responsibilities would continue to be treated separately.
Martin said:
“If MPs are elected to represent ordinary people, there should be a meaningful connection between what their constituents earn and what MPs themselves are paid.
“We offer positive politics, done by ordinary people—a real alternative.”
