Woman airlifted to hospital after serious A61 crash near Harrogate as police launch witness appeal

A woman has been airlifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries following a serious crash on the A61 near Harrogate.

The collision happened at around 8.37am on Tuesday, May 26, at the junction of the A61 and Smith Lane, east of Hutton Bank in North Yorkshire.

The incident involved a black Land Rover Defender, driven by a woman in her 30s from County Durham, and a blue-and-white DAF HGV driven by a man in his 60s from Lincolnshire.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the collision on one of the main routes near Harrogate. The woman driving the Land Rover suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to hospital, where she remains receiving treatment.

North Yorkshire Police has now launched an appeal for witnesses and dashcam footage as officers continue their investigation into the serious A61 collision.

A spokesperson for North Yorkshire Police said:We are appealing to anybody who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police, or anyone who may have dashcam footage of the collision or moments leading up to it, including either of the vehicles involved prior to the collision.”

Police are particularly keen to hear from motorists who were travelling along the A61 near Hutton Bank around the time of the incident and may have captured footage of the vehicles before the crash occurred.
